CODE OF CONDUCT

FC Hawaii Players are Fierce Competitors with Exceptional Skill and Talent
Our players are leaders of character and integrity on and off the field.

FC Hawaii prides itself on holding high standards when it comes to player, coach and parent sportsmanship. All participants must sign a Code of Conduct form before beginning with FC Hawaii.

Coaches Code of Conduct

  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • I will provide a safe playing environment for my players.
  • I promise to review and practice basic first-aid principles needed to treat injuries to my players.
  • I will strive to keep abreast of current learning techniques and knowledge of the game. I will listen and learn from my players and other coaches.
  • I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging to my players.
  • I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players and opponents.
  • I will maintain control of my emotions and I will avoid actions, language and/or gestures that may be interpreted as hostile or humiliating.
  • I will provide a soccer environment for my players free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all practices and games.
  • I will be knowledgeable of the laws of the game, and I will teach them to my players.
  • I will treat parents, players, fans, other coaches and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, religion, or ability, and I will expect to be treated accordingly.
  • I will ensure that the fans of my team exhibit sportsmanship and maturity at all times and assist league and game officials in maintaining control of the spectator sidelines.
  • I will discuss any issues about a game with the referee or linesman in a courteous and professional manner and never make a scene when doing so. If I have an issue, I agree to abide by the league rules for appropriate handling of such issue.
  • I will remember that as a coach, I represent the FC Hawaii and the community. I understand poor behavior during practices, games, or tournaments may result in disciplinary actions, including game suspensions. If this happens repeatedly, it will result in expulsion from the club.

Parents Code of Conduct

  • My child plays soccer for his or her benefit, not mine.
  • I will not give instructions to players – that is the coach’s role.
  • I will never question the referee’s judgment, integrity or honesty.
  • I will support all efforts to eliminate verbal and physical abuse from the game of soccer.
  • If I am upset by something, I will wait 24 hours before discussing the issue with the team coach and will do so in a private and constructive manner.
  • I will not approach the team Coach prior to or during a session.
  • I will show respect for all players, all coaches, all officials and all spectators at all times.
  • I will teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game.
  • I will never take part in a practice, game or team event while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
  • I will make my child feel like a winner by offering praise for competing fairly and doing their best.
  • I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • Children learn by example. I will applaud good plays by both my child’s team and their opponents.
  • I will make sure that my child arrives for practices and games at the time designated by the coach, ready to begin.
  • If my child cannot make a game or practice, I will notify the team Coach in advance so that arrangements for substitutes can be made.
  • I will not take part in any form of bullying, whether that is to a parent, player, team coach, referee or club representative. Bullying in any form, whether in person or electronically (any form of social media) will not be tolerated.
  • I realize that the team can be penalized for my behavior. I will obey a request by a referee or from the team’s Coach to leave the vicinity of the field.
  • I realize that failure to abide by the Code of Conduct may result in my removal, and the potentially removal of my child, from the vicinity of the playing field and potentially further sanctions by the club.
  • I will learn the laws of the game and respect them.
  • I will comply with the rules of the team, coach and club.

Players Code of Conduct

  • I will come to every practice/game with a positive attitude, ready to perform my best.

  • I will attend every practice and game that I can, and I will notify my coach if I cannot make a practice or game.

  • I will practice on my own to improve my soccer skills and physical condition.
  • I will learn and obey the laws of the game and the rules of the team and club.
